The Britax Roundabout 55 and 50 Classic are mid-priced line of Britax car seats, but provide excellent features and safety for your child. The Roundabout 50 Classic is the lesser priced model designed for smaller children, yet still provides forward and rear facing configurations and allows the car seat to be repositioned to a reclining position for both forward and rear facing configurations the same as the Roundabout 55. What to Know about the Design and Construction of The Britax Roundabout Car Seat Line
Both the Britax Roundabout 55 and 50 Classic incorporate the Britax Energy Absorbing Versa-Tether®, side impact protection, utilize high density comfort foam construction, incorporate the Five-Point Harness design with multiple buckle positions and include premium lower LATCH connectors. The lower LATCH connectors are for use in vehicles that have been configured with the built in connections. Vehicles built since 9/1/2002 have been required to be configured with this feature which allows you to connect the child’s car seat directly to the vehicle rather than using the vehicle seat belts to secure the car seat. With the Britax Roundabout 55 or 50 Classic, you can use either system at your choice. The Britax Roundabout 55 car seat utilizes SafeCell tm Technology which is an engineered structure that is designed to compress in a crash. This will significantly lower the center of gravity of the car seat and thus counteracts the forward rotation of the child seat which would then normally propel the child forward, toward the front seat of the vehicle. The lowering of the center of gravity for the car seat can effectively reduce the propensity for the child to be propelled forward into the rear of the front seat, and thus minimize the likelihood of injury from impacting on that seat. The SafeCell tm Technology is incorporated into the rear base of the car seat.
The Roundabout 55 also incorporates Integrated Steel Bars that reduces the forward flexing of the car seat, when combined with the above mentioned SafeCell tm Technology, can effectively preclude the car seat from being propelled forward into the rear of the front seat. The Roundabout 55 also includes Built in Lock-Offs for use with the vehicle seat-belt restraint system and an anti-skid which helps to keep the car seat in the desired position on the seat of the vehicle.
